If you are following me on Instagram then you will know I have been taking part in the #selflovefebchallenge this month. If you’re not following me on Instagram, then why? Here is the link.
I actually didn’t post them all on there though, I just felt it was too much lettering on my page. Before I posted them I knew I wasn’t going to like them on my page, so I just didn’t. But, as I said on there, I did actually complete them – the proof is in this post!
This is the page I created, at the beginning of the month, to prompt myself in actually completing the tasks. So far, I have been pretty good with lettering them, posting the pictures is a different story!
Sleep. This was the first ever lettering piece I had actually completed, ever! I had a completely different picture in my head of how I wanted this to look. Turns out, I am not as good as all of the lettering videos I see online – who’d have guessed huh?! Overall though, I do quite like it. I like the way I was a little more creative with it. Instead of just writing the words out. Using different fonts for all the words. I just wish it looked better, it looks like a newbie – which is what I am but that’s beside the point!
Eat Right. This one I tried to go back to basics. If I am going to learn I need to take baby steps, right? I tried my first blending technique – using the two different colours and blending the tips together. I am really happy with how this turned out in the end. It took me a long time to get the two colours right, and the lettering! The only bit I am not happy with is the last word – something about the big ‘E’ I feel looks weird. But, it’s done now. I just love these two colours together.
Hydration. If you have been here for a while you will know that my hydration levels are something I am really trying to improve. Making this the perfect prompt for me. This is the first of the prompts I actually went straight into the journal for, not writing on plain paper. I wish I saved the previous colour combination for this prompt if I am honest. Blue and teal together would have worked perfectly for these words. I don’t feel anything much about this piece. It’s just a little ‘meh’. I mean, it’s alright, just a bit boring.
Exercise. It has never been something I enjoy. Personally, I can’t stand it. For the purpose of the lettering challenge though, I completed it. I am really happy with the finished piece. Something I wanted to try was different styles, see which ones I enjoy and not enjoy using. I ended up with a collection of 5 different lettering styles that I am happy with. The ones I will be using in the future. I also love how I decided to go for a rainbow theme. It gives it a little more, something. I just love different colours, I can’t help it!
Meditate. These are words I have fallen in love with since lettering them. They speak so much truth it is unreal. I spent the longest time trying to find some colours for this prompt. I wanted to move away from the rainbow, and the over-used blue! So, I went completely different with a mix of pink and purple. Not my two favourite colours but with them together I am loving it. The only thing I am really unhappy with about this is the spacing of the words, and the way I crossed the ‘T’. It just looks weird, I think. You live and you learn though.
Hobby. The words in this quote are perfect for me. Words I really need to start listening too more. Especially this month, I am really trying to get myself back into blogging, beauty and all the things I used to love. Which is why these words are perfect for me if I love it that much then I will make time for it. I am quite happy with the way the lettering actually turned out. The grey and purple together, I think, look so cute. I originally wanted to use pink, but I don’t really like the colour pink. Plus, I feel the purple looks much better with the grey than the pink did.
Gratitude. Firstly, I want to mention that yes, I spelt the word ‘grateful’ wrong. I am aware of that. I was just too happy with how the whole thing turned out for me to redo it, knowing that the second time around it just wouldn’t look the same. So, I left it. I think the little hearts really give it something a little extra.
No. Another quote that I need to remember. Saying the word no isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes, it just has to be said. If it’s something you don’t want to do then you have the right to say no. This was the first time I tried the ‘bouncy lettering’ style. Which, I thought I was going to really dislike, turns out, I actually really enjoy it. I love the way the word ‘maybe’ looks. It’s kind of imperfectly perfect.
Unplug. Again, because of the love, I had for the bouncier lettering I decided I wanted to give it another go. The red ‘unplug’ I am not very happy with, I have a feeling that has something to do with the pen though. It has been well loved and used, so I think it might be time to start looking for a newer one. I feel the bristles are fraying a little. The green ‘plugin’ though, I am so happy with! I am so proud of the way it has come out. I think it might be one of my favourite words I have lettered if I am honest.
