Unpopular Makeup Opinions | Tag

Hi there!

I actually originally saw this post on BeautyByRaji‘s page. Personally, I enjoyed reading it so much I thought it would be fun for me to answer the questions – get to know me a little more!

Question 1: Popular makeup product you don’t like

This one has quite a few products I feel.

MAC as a brand just has to be at the top of this. I don’t stand with them at all when it comes to animal testing. I can’t bring myself to even walk into a MAC store, let alone use any of their products. Also, can we talk about the price tag?! How can they justify their price point, for a lipstick, I don’t think so.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit. As lovely as the glow is that some people get from these palettes. In every single palette, there is at least one shade that I know I would just never use! In the palette, they look beautiful, but on my face? I know they just won’t work for me.

KKW Beauty and Kylie Cosmetics. Do we even need to go into this? Have you seen the price tags that come with these brands? I just can not justify spending that much on makeup. I have tried one Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick – there was a Halloween deal one year, so I actually got it for a much lower price. I just didn’t feel it was worth the money I paid let alone the full price.

Question 2: Popular makeup product/brand that everyone else seems to hate but you love.

I don’t think I have seen much, if any, hate for this brand. I just haven’t seen much love for it either. I love the Makeup Academy brand that is sold in Superdrug stores. They are such an affordable brand and don’t seem to get much attention. My personal favourites are their colour correcting and lip products. I just feel they are underrated and need some more loving.

Question 3: Makeup collab you didn’t like or were not interested in.

I don’t really take much note of makeup collaborations at the moment. C’mon. I am just getting back onto this whole makeup bandwagon – cut a girl some slack!

Back when I was on this bandwagon though, there were so many that I didn’t really care about.
The NikkiTutorialsXOfra was one of them I think. I will get onto why later in the post.
MakeupByMarioXKKWBeauty was another. Did you read my answer to question 1?

Question 4: Popular makeup step that you never do

Baking. I have such dry skin as it is, I don’t understand how people can make it work for them! I just can’t get on board with it. My skin looks awful if I ever bake my face.

Lip Liner. Something I just feel is a waste of time. First of all, I really dislike purchasing the lip liners themselves. I have different coloured lipstick themselves, I don’t want to be searching around for a lip liner that matches the colour perfectly because let’s face it. Even the actual brand themselves can’t get that right! The ‘matching’ lip liner is always a different colour to the actual lip product. I then have to fill in my lips with the lip liner then go in the with lip product? That, for me, is far too much effort!

Question 5: Popular beauty influencer you don’t subscribe to/watch.

This is another one that has quite a few answers. I used to spend hours on Youtube watching beauty influencers, but over the past year they have all dwindled down to about 4, that I still watch.

NikkiTutorials – I stopped watching her because I just don’t feel her content is possible to recreate. I love so much about her, as a person. She is actually really funny, I love the journey she has been on. I just can’t get on board with her ‘out there’ makeup looks she creates.

Zoella – I used to adore this woman. I looked up to her for so much, as did most teenage girls. I just feel over the years she has become completely unrelatable. Don’t get me wrong, what she has achieved is phenomenal! I am proud of her, she is an amazing woman. Just no longer for me. All of her products I feel are overpriced for what they are. A lot of them, I feel, is aimed at a much younger audience than me now. I just can’t relate to her anymore, sadly.

Question 6: Popular makeup product/brand that you don’t use/support anymore.

Rimmel, Maybelline and Revlon. These three brands still test on animals, which I am against. So I now no longer use them.

Question 7: Makeup trend that you have no interest in trying.

All of these crazy Instagram Brow trends are just ridiculous. I like having just natural, slightly bushier brows. That is the way it is going to stay. You want me to sit there for 20 minutes trying to create the perfect ‘Instabrow?’ I don’t think so!
They then took it to the extreme. Having a brow that looks braided? I am just NOT into it. I’m sorry.

Question 8: Makeup product that was better in theory than when you used it. Either swatched better or worked better on others than on you.

The NYX Coloured Eyeliners. Don’t get me wrong I do love these products. I just feel like they weren’t as good as they could have been. The idea of a coloured liner is bloody brilliant! The end product wasn’t as good though. When wet they look amazing, but it’s when they dry they start to disappoint. I feel like they dry down to a much darker, less pigmented shade.

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I was going too! I feel like this is a great way for me to start introducing myself back into the Makeup world. Let’s face it, it’s a very large and overwhelming place to be! I’m starting slowly. I’ll be back in full swing soon – hopefully! Stay tuned for more Beauty / Makeup posts!
Also, I would love to see your answers to these questions! Let me know if you have answered or are going to answer these questions! I look forward to reading them. Jade xo
